Program Overview: What is Carbon Accounting and GHG Protocol (Scope 1, 2 and 3)?
Carbon Accounting & GHG Protocol (Scope 1, 2 & 3) is Edstellar's instructor-led program for sustainability, finance, and operations teams building defensible emissions inventories. Participants work through the GHG Protocol's requirements for organizational boundaries and all three scopes. The program covers calculation methods, data quality, and assurance readiness across 24 hours.
Participants build an inventory as they learn. Each scope gets its own calculation workshop: direct emissions, energy indirect, and the value-chain data challenges of Scope 3, all using realistic company datasets. Instructors coach on boundary choices, emission factors, and the documentation an assurer will demand. The capstone is a full enterprise GHG inventory build, complete with QA checks and an assurance-readiness review.
Emissions inventories usually fail on Scope 3 and on evidence: estimates nobody can defend and spreadsheets nobody can audit. This program teaches the discipline the Protocol demands. Your teams learn to choose methods, document sources, and stand behind every number.
Each team delivers a complete enterprise GHG inventory in the capstone, boundaries set, scopes calculated, QA applied, and walks it through a mock assurance review. Your organization returns with an inventory it can publish, and the working papers to back it up.
Six modules and 24 hours: GHG Protocol foundations, Scope 1 calculation, Scope 2 methods, Scope 3 screening, assurance readiness, and a capstone enterprise inventory build. Every module pairs concepts with a guided lab, so each method is practiced. It closes with a capstone inventory the team assembles, documents, and presents.
Delivery is hybrid across virtual and onsite sessions, scheduled around your calendar. Cohorts train as one group or split into batches, with session materials and calculation guides included for every participant.

Build Traceable GHG Inventories with Clear Boundaries and Quality Checks
Our carbon accounting training connects organizational boundaries with the data and calculation choices behind Scope 1, 2, and 3 inventories. Participants work through direct emissions, purchased energy, and value-chain screening before reviewing quality controls. The final inventory emphasizes traceability, qualified assumptions, and transparent reporting rather than treating a completed workbook as assured emissions data.
- Step 01
Consult
We review your emissions-data responsibilities and organizational structure, identifying learning needs in boundaries, activity data, emission factors, Scope 2 methods, and value-chain estimates.
- Step 02
Plan
We establish GHG Protocol and boundary foundations before Scope 1 calculations, dual-method Scope 2 reporting, Scope 3 screening, and quality review in the enterprise inventory.
- Step 03
Align
We align sustainability, finance, procurement, and operations perspectives, adjusting spreadsheet and energy-data support while clarifying responsibility for the inventory’s source records.
- Step 04
Customize
We tailor a simulated corporate structure, energy bills, and supplier activity data to representative operations, making factor sources and estimation assumptions explicit.
- Step 05
Execute
Participants calculate emissions, test energy-contract evidence, prioritize value-chain categories, and resolve QA findings with feedback on methods, reconciliation, and traceable documentation.
- Step 06
Evaluate
We assess the inventory for justified boundaries, consistent calculations, transparent Scope 2 and 3 methods, documented quality checks, and an accurately qualified disclosure summary.
