Program Overview: What is Programme and Portfolio Management?
Programme & Portfolio Management is Edstellar's instructor-led program for programme managers, portfolio leads, and PMO professionals who govern delivery at scale. Participants master delivery governance, portfolio planning and prioritisation, programme-scale planning, benefits management and stakeholder alignment, and delivery metrics and programme controls. The program runs from first principles of programmes and portfolios to a full governing simulation.
Training is hands-on from the first module. Your team prioritises live portfolio backlogs, builds programme plans with real interdependencies, and designs benefits tracking in guided workshops. Instructors coach participants through governance trade-offs and metrics design, reviewing every exercise with direct feedback on rigour and decision logic. The program closes with a capstone where the team governs a simulated portfolio, making prioritisation, funding, and kill decisions under pressure.
Organisations drown in initiatives: too many programmes, thin governance, and benefits that evaporate after the business case. This program teaches your leaders to prioritise portfolios ruthlessly, plan at programme scale, and govern delivery with metrics that mean something. Your organisation stops funding activity and starts funding outcomes.
The capstone is a five-hour governing-the-portfolio simulation: each team takes the helm of an overcommitted portfolio, then must prioritise, re-sequence, fund, and kill programmes while stakeholders lobby and risks surface. The deliverable is a governed portfolio plan with prioritisation rationale, benefits tracking, and a decision log the team defends in review. The review tests whether the team can say no with evidence, because a portfolio that funds everything delivers nothing.
Each module pairs proven delivery frameworks with guided hands-on labs built on realistic programme scenarios, so learners leave with governance models and control templates they can apply immediately.

Where this Training Fits in Your Team's learning path.
Programme and portfolio management comes after PMP-level project skills, because programmes are made of well-run projects. This course covers coordinating many projects towards strategy. Benefits realisation follows, proving the value of that coordination, and the path ends with PMO leadership to govern it all.

Govern Programmes and Portfolios Through Dependencies, Benefits, and Explicit Delivery Decisions
Edstellar develops governance skills across multi-project delivery. Participants prioritize portfolio intake, map integrated dependencies, and assign benefit ownership before building programme controls. A simulated delivery quarter brings these responsibilities together, assessed for coherent escalation, realistic capacity choices, and the way progress, risk, and benefits evidence informs governance decisions.
- Step 01
Consult
We review delivery responsibilities, programme experience, and difficulties coordinating projects or benefits to identify gaps in portfolio prioritization, dependency planning, or governance reporting.
- Step 02
Plan
We establish programme and portfolio governance before intake prioritization, integrated planning, and benefit ownership, then connect stakeholder engagement and dashboards in the governing simulation.
- Step 03
Align
We align programme delivery and portfolio governance expertise with managers, sponsors, and PMO roles, adapting scenarios to the cohort's delivery structures and experience.
- Step 04
Customize
We tailor sample portfolios and programme milestones to familiar delivery constraints, including competing capacity needs and interdependencies that require board-level choices in simulation.
- Step 05
Execute
Participants sequence investments, build dependency plans, and assign benefits measures, receiving feedback on governance roles, escalation clarity, and the usefulness of programme dashboards.
- Step 06
Evaluate
We assess simulated portfolio decisions for supported prioritization, coherent dependency management, accountable benefit ownership, and clear links between delivery evidence and governance actions.
