Program Overview: What is Competency Framework Design?
Competency Framework Design is a 16-hour program for HR, talent management, and L&D teams. It covers competency foundations and strategy alignment, job analysis and the critical incident technique, defining competencies and proficiency levels, validating and embedding the framework, and applying frameworks in talent decisions. Teams learn to build frameworks managers actually use in everyday talent conversations.
Training runs across six modules with two intensive practice sessions built around real roles. Participants run job analyses, interview for critical incidents, draft competencies with observable behaviors and proficiency levels, and validate the framework with stakeholders. Instructors coach each exercise, sharpening behavioral precision and the stakeholder buy-in that decides whether a framework lives or dies. The program closes with a capstone rollout plan for a complete competency framework.
Most competency frameworks die in a drawer: beautifully worded, never referenced, ignored in every hiring and promotion decision. Vague competencies produce ratings nobody trusts. This program teaches teams to build frameworks that survive contact with managers: observable behaviors, clear proficiency levels, validation with the people who will use them, and embedding into the talent decisions that matter.
The capstone produces the document that decides whether the framework lives: a complete rollout plan. It sequences stakeholder validation, manager training, pilot talent decisions, and the communication that introduces the framework without the usual eye-rolls, plus the metrics that will prove adoption. Each team presents its plan as if to its own CHRO, because the difference between a framework and a framework that gets used is everything after the design is done.
Over six modules, teams progress from competency foundations to a full capstone rollout plan. The program emphasizes observable behaviors, stakeholder buy-in, and frameworks that managers actually use in everyday talent conversations.
