Program Overview: What is Skills Taxonomy and Job Architecture?
Skills Taxonomy & Job Architecture is Edstellar's instructor-led program for HR and talent teams building skills taxonomies and job architecture. It covers taxonomy foundations, job architecture design, building and validating a taxonomy, and applying it to talent decisions. Participants learn to turn vague job titles into a skills language the whole organisation can use.
Training is working-session based, not lecture heavy. Participants draft their own taxonomy skeletons, map real jobs from their organisation into a job architecture, and validate skills with managers in facilitated exercises. Instructors coach each team on granularity, governance, and adoption risk, giving direct feedback on every draft. The program closes with a showcase where each team presents a taxonomy rollout plan for their company.
Without a skills language, talent decisions run on job titles and gut feel: hiring misses, reskilling wanders, and internal mobility stalls because nobody can see what skills the organisation actually has. This program teaches HR teams to build a taxonomy that hiring, learning, and workforce planning can all share.
The showcase is a pitch to a skeptical audience: each team presents its taxonomy rollout plan with the draft skills list, governance model, and the first three talent decisions the taxonomy will change. Instructors push on adoption risk the way an executive committee would, so the plan leaves the room ready for the conversation that actually matters.
Five modules and 13 hours: taxonomy foundations, job architecture design, building and validating taxonomies, and talent applications. Every module pairs concepts with practice scenarios and role plays, so each technique is rehearsed. It closes with a capstone rollout plan the team prepares and presents.
Delivery is hybrid across virtual and onsite sessions, scheduled around your calendar. Cohorts train as one group or split into batches, with session materials and practice guides included for every participant.

Build Skills Taxonomies That Support Clear Roles and Talent Decisions
Edstellar develops skills-based job architecture through practical role design and stakeholder validation. Participants distinguish levels, organize skills, and explore hiring and learning applications using fictional roles. A taxonomy and rollout presentation are reviewed for consistent definitions, meaningful progression, and clear evidence that intended users understand the proposed structure.
- Step 01
Consult
We explore HR and talent responsibilities, inconsistent role language, and skills-data needs to identify gaps in taxonomy design, level differentiation, and validation.
- Step 02
Plan
Taxonomy foundations lead into job architecture, skills identification and validation, and talent applications before a complete taxonomy and rollout plan.
- Step 03
Align
Skills and job-architecture facilitation supports HR partners, talent acquisition, learning, and rewards colleagues, connecting design choices with their distinct uses of role information.
- Step 04
Customize
Fictional job families and career transitions provide realistic architecture cases without evaluating named employees or making actual hiring, promotion, or reward decisions.
- Step 05
Execute
Participants draft leveled profiles, develop sample hiring rubrics, and map learning paths, receiving feedback on definitions, scope distinctions, and consistency across applications.
- Step 06
Evaluate
We assess the taxonomy for clear skill definitions, defensible role levels, documented validation, and a rollout plan that addresses ownership and intended talent uses.
