Program Overview: What is Procurement Negotiation?
Procurement Negotiation is an instructor-led corporate training program that teaches buyers to prepare rigorously, analyze cost, and negotiate better commercial deals. Your team learns market analysis, BATNA planning, should-cost modeling, concession strategy, and contract term negotiation, then practices in guided hands-on labs with realistic supplier scenarios. The program suits buyers and category managers who negotiate supplier deals directly.
The program runs over 26 instructor-led hours across seven modules, moving from negotiation foundations to advanced deal strategy. Participants analyze supplier power, build BATNA and concession plans, and model should-cost positions before every simulated round. Instructors lead negotiation role-plays against realistic supplier counterparts, debriefing tactics, trade-offs, and concession discipline after each round. It closes with the Live Supplier Negotiation Simulation capstone, where teams negotiate a multi-variable deal against experienced supplier actors.
Most buyers negotiate unprepared: they accept the supplier's first credible number, concede without trading, and sign terms they never analyzed. Every unprepared negotiation leaves money and protections on the table. This program replaces instinct with preparation, teaching buyers to know their walk-away, price their concessions, and bargain across multiple variables instead of price alone.
For the capstone, each team enters a live negotiation simulation against a supplier team with its own hidden objectives: a full preparation sheet with BATNA and walk-away positions, a should-cost model justifying the target price, a concession plan with priced trades, and a term sheet protecting delivery, quality, and risk allocation. The negotiation is recorded and debriefed round by round, so teams see exactly where they held or gave ground. The deliverable is a reusable negotiation playbook the team can carry into its next real supplier negotiation.
The program moves from negotiation foundations to advanced deal strategy: supplier power analysis, total cost modeling, multi-variable bargaining, and difficult-supplier tactics. Participants build a reusable negotiation playbook with preparation sheets, cost models, and concession plans they apply to live negotiations immediately. Content adapts to your categories and supplier base.
