Program Overview: What is Android Internals?
Android Internals is a 36-hour deep-dive for Android developers, platform engineers, and device engineers who need to look beneath the APIs. Participants study the full Android stack, boot sequence and system services, Binder IPC and HAL layers, the ART runtime, memory and process management, and performance, power, and security. Every concept is explored in hands-on labs on real device images.
The program runs as instructor-led deep dives where each module pairs expert instruction with guided labs on real Android builds. Learners trace boot sequences, drive Binder transactions, profile ART behavior, analyze memory pressure, and tune performance and power under instructor coaching. Each lab ends with review and debugging feedback so engineers reason from internals, not guesswork. It closes with a capstone where every learner designs and builds a system-level component.
Platform engineers waste days debugging what they cannot see: system-service crashes, mysterious IPC failures, and battery drains with no clear cause. This program teaches them to read the platform: boot and service behavior, Binder and HAL mechanics, and ART, memory, and tracing tools. Engineers can diagnose system-level issues with evidence, not trial and error.
Few engineers ever build below the app layer; yours will have. They leave having written a system service, wired it through a HAL shim, and traced it end to end. Platform mysteries get shorter from here.
Eight modules and 36 hours: platform architecture, boot and init, Binder IPC and HALs, ART runtime, memory and processes, storage internals, performance and power, and a capstone system build. Every module pairs concepts with a guided lab, so each technique is practiced. It closes with a capstone build the team designs, instruments, reviews, and presents. Delivery is hybrid across virtual and onsite sessions, scheduled around your calendar. Cohorts train as one group or split into batches, with session materials and lab guides included for every participant.

Explore Android Internals Through System Tracing and Component Engineering
Edstellar helps platform teams connect Android architecture with the evidence used to diagnose system behavior. Participants trace boot and IPC, inspect runtime and memory behavior, and benchmark storage before building a system component. The final service, HAL shim, and client provide a practical basis for reviewing design and tracing results.
- Step 01
Consult
We review Android platform responsibilities to identify needs in boot sequences, Binder IPC, ART behavior, memory pressure, storage performance, and system-level diagnostics.
- Step 02
Plan
We connect platform architecture with boot, Binder, runtime, memory, and I/O analysis before investigating performance and building a traced system component.
- Step 03
Align
We align instruction with developers, device engineers, and platform QA teams, using AOSP and test images to connect application symptoms with underlying system behavior.
- Step 04
Customize
We tailor service calls, memory-pressure cases, and I/O workloads to familiar platform problems while preserving controlled measurements and clear boundaries around test builds.
- Step 05
Execute
Participants trace transactions, inspect heap and runtime evidence, and diagnose jank, receiving feedback on bottleneck reasoning and whether proposed changes address measured behavior.
- Step 06
Evaluate
We assess the system component for coherent service and HAL integration, useful instrumentation, and trace evidence that supports the team’s design and performance conclusions.
