Program Overview: What is Open RAN Architecture and Operations?
Open RAN Architecture & Operations is Edstellar's instructor-led technical program for telecom engineers, network architects, and operations teams building open radio access networks. Participants learn open RAN concepts and disaggregation, O-RAN interfaces and open fronthaul, RIC platforms with xApps and rApps, multi-vendor deployment, and performance tuning with security. The program builds real Open RAN engineering skill.
Training is hands-on with open RAN components. Participants work with O-RAN interfaces, develop and test xApps and rApps on RIC platforms, and run multi-vendor integration exercises in guided labs. Instructors coach the team through open fronthaul bring-up, performance optimisation, and security hardening, reviewing every build with direct feedback. The program closes with a capstone where each team completes an end-to-end Open RAN build and operate cycle.
Open RAN promises vendor choice but delivers integration pain when teams lack the skills: mismatched interfaces, underperforming fronthaul, security gaps. This program teaches engineers to deploy disaggregated networks that actually perform, integrate vendors smoothly, and harden the whole stack. Open RAN becomes an operational reality instead of a pilot that never scales.
The capstone is an end-to-end Open RAN build and operate exercise: a disaggregated RAN brought up over open fronthaul, xApps and rApps developed and tested on a RIC platform, multi-vendor components integrated and troubleshot, and performance tuned with security hardening applied. Your team takes back a proven playbook for deploying Open RAN in production networks.
Disaggregation only pays off when teams can design to the specs, integrate across vendors, and operate the result. The program moves from architecture and interface foundations into RIC development, deployment and integration practice, then performance tuning, security hardening, and troubleshooting. It closes with a capstone where your team builds and operates a complete Open RAN stack end to end.

Teams that Benefit from this Open RAN Architecture and Operations Group Training
This program is built for the groups that design, deploy, integrate, and secure disaggregated radio networks. Content adapts to each cohort's vendors and deployment stage so every team practices the workflows it owns.
Design disaggregated RAN that your vendors can actually deliver
Network engineers learn to design Open RAN architectures, plan open fronthaul, and select split options that fit capacity and latency budgets.
Workflow friction
- Vendor claims that do not match the specs
- Fronthaul timing budgets that slip in build
- Designs that break at integration time
How the program helps
- Read O-RAN specs and translate them into designs
- Plan open fronthaul with validated budgets
- Choose split options with confidence
Practice use cases
- Fronthaul planning labs
- Split option studies
- Interface mapping drills
Keep a multi-vendor RAN performing inside its KPI budget
Operations teams learn to monitor disaggregated domains, tune performance loops, and isolate faults that span vendor boundaries.
Workflow friction
- Faults that cross vendor boundaries
- New interfaces with thin runbooks
- Performance regressions after changes
How the program helps
- Monitor KPIs across disaggregated domains
- Run optimization loops with the RIC
- Cut mean time to isolate faults
Practice use cases
- KPI monitoring labs
- Fault isolation drills
- Tuning exercises
Prove multi-vendor stacks interoperate before production
Integration engineers learn SMO onboarding, interoperability test design, and the acceptance gates that de-risk multi-vendor rollout.
Workflow friction
- Vendors pointing at each other on failures
- Incomplete interop coverage in test
- Handover with undocumented gaps
How the program helps
- Design interop test plans that catch gaps
- Onboard functions through SMO cleanly
- Set acceptance gates vendors respect
Practice use cases
- Interop test labs
- SMO onboarding drills
- Acceptance gate reviews
Harden open interfaces before attackers test them
Security teams learn the expanded threat surface of open interfaces, RIC and SMO hardening, and incident response for multi-vendor outages.
Workflow friction
- Open interfaces widening the attack surface
- Cloud-native RAN with new exposures
- Slow coordinated response across vendors
How the program helps
- Map the open-interface threat surface
- Harden RIC, SMO, and O-Cloud builds
- Run multi-vendor incident response
Practice use cases
- Hardening labs
- Threat modeling sessions
- Incident response drills
Cohorts are grouped by role so labs use scenarios each team owns, from fronthaul planning to incident response.
Prerequisites: This program benefits network engineers, RAN operations staff, and integration teams working with or planning disaggregated radio networks. Familiarity with 4G or 5G RAN concepts helps, but is not required: the opening modules establish the architecture foundations before labs begin. Content adapts to each cohort's vendors, deployment stage, and tooling so every team practices the workflows it owns.

Each skill row shows the level your team enters with and the level it reaches by the end of the program.
One program that grows with Open RAN network careers, from architecture basics to confident multi-vendor practice.
Mixed cohort, or several teams at once?
We can tailor the training to different teams, roles, and experience levels within the same program.

Where this Training Fits in Your Team's learning path.
Open RAN comes after your team understands the 5G core and RAN and the SDN and NFV ideas that make disaggregation possible. This course covers running a multi-vendor Open RAN, then the path moves to AIOps to manage the extra operational complexity it brings.

Build Open RAN Integration Skills With Tested Interfaces and Operational Evidence
Edstellar develops disaggregated RAN capability through architecture, control-loop, and interoperability exercises. Participants map radio functions, design fronthaul, and test a sandbox RIC application before integrating components and diagnosing degradation. The final stack is reviewed for coherent interfaces, supported fault isolation, and a handover grounded in lab results.
- Step 01
Consult
We explore RAN and integration responsibilities to identify gaps in functional splits, fronthaul interfaces, RIC behavior, multi-vendor interoperability, and operational diagnosis.
- Step 02
Plan
We establish disaggregation and interface foundations before RIC applications and component integration, then develop performance and hardening practice ahead of the complete Open RAN handover.
- Step 03
Align
We align radio-network and Open RAN expertise with engineers, operators, and integration teams, adapting foundational support to their vendors, deployment stage, and RAN experience.
- Step 04
Customize
Reference sites, sandbox control loops, and interoperability scenarios reflect relevant deployment choices, enabling tailored split and interface reviews without modifying operational radio networks.
- Step 05
Execute
Participants configure a sample xApp, onboard lab components, run interoperability tests, and investigate degraded fronthaul, receiving feedback on control behavior, fault boundaries, and hardening choices.
- Step 06
Evaluate
We assess the Open RAN build for justified splits, verified interfaces, tested control-loop behavior, and a handover runbook supported by integration and troubleshooting evidence.
