Program Overview: What is AWS Security Engineering?

AWS Security Engineering is Edstellar's instructor-led technical program for security engineers and cloud architects hardening AWS environments. Participants master the shared responsibility model, identity and access management, and network security with VPC design. The program covers data protection and encryption, detection, logging, and incident response.

Training is hands-on from the first module. Participants secure accounts in guided labs: locking down IAM, designing VPCs, encrypting data, then building detection with CloudTrail and GuardDuty. Instructors coach threat-informed defense with direct feedback on every configuration. The program closes with a capstone: a secure AWS landing zone the team builds from scratch.

Cloud breaches follow the same pattern: overprivileged roles, flat networks, and logging nobody reads until the incident. This program teaches security engineering discipline, least privilege enforced, networks segmented, and detection that actually fires. Everything is practiced against realistic attack scenarios, so the controls hold when tested.

The capstone builds a secure AWS landing zone from an empty organization: identity boundaries, network segmentation, encryption standards, logging pipelines, and detection rules, all verified, all documented. Security engineers return with a landing zone they can show an auditor, and the muscle memory to build the next one faster.

Six modules and 24 hours: AWS security foundations, identity and access management, network security and VPC design, data protection and encryption, and detection, logging, and incident response. Every module pairs concepts with a guided lab, so each technique is practiced. It closes with a capstone secure landing zone build the team delivers against a realistic multi-account environment.

Key Skills and Outcomes Your Team Will Gain

Seven job-ready outcomes your team will demonstrate by the end of the program. Each competency is practiced in guided labs and reviewed in the capstone build.

  • Apply the shared responsibility model

Distinguish AWS-owned controls from yours and close the gaps in your account strategy.

  • Harden IAM to least privilege

Author tight policies with permission boundaries and guardrails for privileged access.

  • Design secure VPC architectures

Build segmented networks with inspection for east-west and north-south traffic.

  • Protect data with encryption

Apply encryption and KMS key management across storage, databases, and backups.

  • Build detection with AWS services

Centralize logging and tune GuardDuty and Security Hub findings for triage.

  • Respond to AWS incidents

Run incident response playbooks built for cloud-native attack patterns.

  • Deliver a secure landing zone

Ship a multi-account foundation with identity, network, data, and detection controls.
