Program Overview: What is Configuration Management with Ansible (Legacy: Chef/Puppet)?
Configuration Management with Ansible (Legacy: Chef/Puppet) is a 24-hour hands-on program for DevOps engineers, sysadmins, and platform teams. It covers configuration management foundations, Ansible playbooks, roles and inventory, Vault, templates and variables, scaling with collections, AWX and CI/CD integration, and migration from Chef and Puppet. The emphasis is idempotent, version-controlled configuration and de-risked migration off legacy tooling.
Training runs across six modules with six practice sessions in live lab environments. Participants write playbooks and roles, manage inventory, handle secrets with Vault, build templates, scale with collections and AWX, wire configuration into CI/CD pipelines, and plan a Chef/Puppet migration. Instructors review each build, coaching on idempotency, safe secrets handling, and pipeline design. The program closes with a capstone end-to-end configuration pipeline the team designs and runs.
Manual configuration is the outage that keeps happening: snowflake servers, secrets in plain text, changes nobody can reproduce or roll back. Legacy tooling adds its own drag as skills fade and integrations age. This program teaches configuration as code: idempotent playbooks under version control, secrets handled safely, pipelines that apply changes repeatably, and a migration off Chef and Puppet that does not break production.
The capstone is a pipeline, not a demo: each team designs and runs an end-to-end configuration pipeline. It includes version-controlled playbooks and roles, Vault-backed secrets, templated configuration, AWX or CI/CD integration, and a migration plan for the legacy Chef/Puppet estate with rollback steps. The pipeline stays with the team as a working reference, and the migration plan is the document that turns a vague intention to move off Chef into a sequenced project with owners and dates.
Over six modules, teams progress from configuration management foundations to a full capstone pipeline. The program emphasizes idempotent, version-controlled configuration, safe secrets handling, pipeline integration, and migration planning that de-risks the move off legacy tooling.

Build Reusable Ansible Automation With Verified Configuration and Legacy Migration
Edstellar connects configuration-management foundations with Ansible roles, protected variables, and pipeline integration. Engineers automate test environments and compare migrated legacy behavior before presenting an end-to-end configuration workflow. Feedback examines idempotence, reusable structure, secret handling, and the test evidence supporting changes rather than assuming automation is safe merely because it runs.
- Step 01
Consult
We assess Linux familiarity and fleet-management responsibilities to identify gaps in drift control, reusable playbooks, environment variables, and legacy automation migration.
- Step 02
Plan
We establish drift and configuration principles before playbooks and roles, Vault and templates, AWX pipelines, and legacy conversion within the integrated configuration workflow.
- Step 03
Align
We align Ansible instruction with platform, DevOps, SRE, and administration roles, confirming test-node access and Linux support suited to existing automation experience.
- Step 04
Customize
We tailor server roles, environment templates, and legacy cookbook examples to representative infrastructure while using test credentials and explicit behavioral-parity criteria.
- Step 05
Execute
Participants write roles, template configurations, and connect AWX jobs, receiving feedback on idempotence, lint and test results, secret handling, and migration parity.
- Step 06
Evaluate
We assess the configuration pipeline for repeatable behavior, reusable roles, protected variables, tested legacy equivalence, and clear evidence supporting deployment decisions.
