Program Overview: What is Solvency II and Insurance Capital Management Corporate Training?
Solvency II & Insurance Capital Management is Edstellar's instructor-led program for the teams behind an insurer's capital story: actuarial, finance, risk, and regulatory reporting. Participants work through the three pillars, technical provisions and own funds, the SCR standard formula, internal models, governance and ORSA, and Pillar 3 reporting. The program closes with a capstone: an end-to-end solvency assessment.
Training is workshop-driven across all 32 hours, built around the calculations and documents supervisors actually examine. Teams compute technical provisions, work the SCR standard formula, compare internal model options, draft ORSA narratives, and prepare Pillar 3 disclosures in guided sessions. Instructors review every calculation and document with direct feedback, testing the reasoning a supervisor would probe. The 5.5-hour capstone stages a complete solvency assessment, from balance sheet to capital management actions.
Solvency II overwhelms teams that treat it as reporting: numbers without understanding, ORSAs written to satisfy, capital managed after the ratio moves. The program teaches the framework as management: own the provisions, the capital calculation, and the ORSA, and manage the balance sheet deliberately. Everything is worked through in guided sessions, so the team defends its numbers with understanding.
The solvency assessment capstone is the whole program in one exercise: the team takes a realistic insurer from technical provisions through the SCR calculation, governance and ORSA review, and Pillar 3 disclosure, ending with capital management actions it would recommend to the board. It is the closest thing to running the regime for real, and the team walks out having run it end to end.
The program covers technical provisions and own funds, the standard formula, internal model options, governance and ORSA, Pillar 3 reporting, and capital management strategy. Every concept is practiced in guided labs on realistic insurer data, and the capstone asks each cohort to assemble a full solvency assessment. Teams leave able to read an SFCR, defend an SCR, and plan capital with discipline.

Teams that Benefit from this Solvency II and Insurance Capital Management Group Training
Solvency II touches actuarial, finance, risk, and regulatory reporting teams, and each owns a different slice of the capital story. This group training brings them together around one framework, and content adapts to role and experience so each cohort practices the workflows it owns.
Sharpen reserving and capital models your auditors can defend
Actuaries own the technical provisions, risk margin, and SCR calculations this program drills. Guided labs practice best estimate builds, standard formula workups, and USP comparisons.
Workflow friction
- Explaining model output to non-technical stakeholders
- Keeping methods consistent across business lines
- Tracing assumption changes into capital results
How the program helps
- Price the risk margin with defensible assumptions
- Reconcile SCR output against your own data
- Document models for supervisory review
Practice use cases
- Best estimate labs
- SCR workups
- Risk margin builds
- USP comparisons
Steer capital buffers, dividends, and funding with confidence
Finance teams plan own funds, set buffers above SCR, and manage dividend and reinsurance strategy. The program practices capital planning, transitional measure runoff, and stress responses.
Workflow friction
- Aligning treasury plans with solvency forecasts
- Explaining capital moves to stakeholders
- Modeling management actions under stress
How the program helps
- Set target buffers with documented rationale
- Link dividend policy to forward solvency
- Quantify reinsurance capital relief
Practice use cases
- Capital planning labs
- Buffer setting drills

Run ORSA and risk appetite with supervisory-grade rigor
Risk teams own the risk management framework, ORSA process, and key function coordination. Labs cover risk appetite design, stress testing, and ORSA reporting that stands up to supervisory review.
Workflow friction
- Aggregating risk data across functions
- Keeping the ORSA forward-looking, not backward
- Proving the use test for models and limits
How the program helps
- Draft ORSA sections that reviewers accept
- Calibrate risk appetite to capital limits
- Stress test portfolios with clear narratives
Practice use cases
- ORSA drafting labs
- Stress testing drills
- Appetite design sessions
File QRTs, SFCRs, and RSRs accurately and on time
Reporting teams turn ledger data into QRTs, SFCR narratives, and RSR submissions. Hands-on filing labs practice XBRL mechanics, validation checks, and the errors that trigger supervisory queries.
Workflow friction
- Mapping ledger codes to QRT cells
- Keeping narratives consistent with figures
- Chasing validation errors under time pressure
How the program helps
- Validate QRTs before filing deadlines
- Write SFCR narratives from your numbers
- Cut resubmissions with pre-filing checks
Practice use cases
- QRT filing labs
- XBRL validation drills
- SFCR writing practice
Select the functions joining your cohort; labs and examples adapt to the teams in the room.
Prerequisites: Finance, actuarial, risk, and regulatory reporting teams benefit most, especially staff who prepare or review solvency figures. A working knowledge of insurance financial statements helps but is not required; the program builds from foundations. No prior Solvency II implementation experience is needed. Content adapts to each cohort's lines of business, reporting tools, and supervisory context.
Actuarial Analyst to Capital Management Lead
The program moves cohorts from Solvency II foundations to a full solvency assessment: analysts build calculation skills in guided labs while managers practice governance, ORSA, and capital planning. Each skill row shows the level your team enters at and the level it reaches by the final capstone review.
One program that grows with actuarial and finance careers, from Solvency II basics to confident capital management practice.

Where this Training Fits in Your Team's learning path.
Solvency II capital management comes after insurance operations and reinsurance. Your team needs to understand the business and how risk is transferred before measuring capital requirements, and IFRS 17 reporting then completes the financial picture.

Connect Insurance Solvency Calculations With Defensible Capital and Governance Decisions
Edstellar develops insurance-capital capability through valuation, risk, governance, and reporting exercises. Participants examine technical provisions, own funds, SCR calculations, and stress responses for a case insurer. A solvency assessment pack is reviewed for consistent assumptions, traceable calculations, and a clear explanation of management actions and remaining uncertainty.
- Step 01
Consult
We discuss insurance-finance knowledge, solvency responsibilities, and reporting challenges to identify priorities in provisions, own funds, capital calculations, ORSA, and management actions.
- Step 02
Plan
Three-pillar foundations lead into valuation and funds, SCR and model choices, governance, and reporting before a complete solvency assessment and capital plan.
- Step 03
Align
Insurance actuarial, finance, and risk expertise supports teams preparing or reviewing solvency figures, matching technical depth to their calculation and governance responsibilities.
- Step 04
Customize
A fictional insurer and sample liability portfolio provide realistic valuation and stress scenarios without exposing confidential capital positions or making financial transactions.
- Step 05
Execute
Participants value liabilities, classify funds, and develop stress-response plans, receiving feedback on calculation logic, assumptions, reporting consistency, and proposed management actions.
- Step 06
Evaluate
We assess the solvency pack for reconciled calculations, justified capital assumptions, coherent governance evidence, and a transparent explanation of stress responses and limitations.
