Program Overview: What is Essential Management Skills?
Essential Management Skills is Edstellar's instructor-led program for new and newly promoted managers making the shift from individual contributor to people leader. Participants learn the manager mindset, coaching and developing their team, feedback and difficult conversations, leading through change and managing conflict. The program is built for managers in their first years of leading people.
Training is built on practice, not management theory. Participants run coaching conversations with realistic employee scenarios, rehearse difficult feedback in coached role-plays, and work change and conflict cases drawn from real management situations. Instructors with leadership experience debrief every session with direct, usable feedback. The program closes with a capstone where each manager builds their 90-day management action plan.
New managers usually default to what made them successful as contributors: doing the work themselves, avoiding hard conversations, and confusing busyness with leadership. This program teaches them the actual craft of managing people: coaching instead of telling, feedback as a habit, and leading teams through change. Every skill is rehearsed until it feels natural.
The capstone is a 90-day management action plan for the manager's real team: coaching priorities, feedback commitments, and the conversations they have been avoiding, all scheduled and sequenced. They defend the plan against realistic pushback from their own scenarios. Managers return with a plan for their first quarter and habits that outlast it.
The program covers five areas: making the shift from contributor to manager, coaching and developing people, feedback and difficult conversations, leading through change and managing conflict, and a capstone where each manager builds a 90-day action plan for their own team.
