Program Overview: What is Maritime Leadership?
Maritime Leadership is an instructor-led program for maritime officers, fleet managers, and shore leaders who must command with confidence at sea and ashore. It covers command presence, the regulatory foundations of leadership accountability, decisions under pressure, coaching multinational crews, building a safety culture that reports and learns, and fleet-wide change leadership.
Training uses case clinics and peer circles rather than lectures: participants work through bridge and fleet scenarios, practice decisions under time pressure, role-play difficult crew conversations, and get direct instructor feedback on their leadership presence. The program culminates in a four-hour Action Lab Capstone where each participant leads a fleet-wide change initiative from plan to execution readiness.
A ship is only as safe as its leadership culture: unreported near misses, crew who fear speaking up, and officers who freeze under pressure are the real incident precursors. This program builds leaders who create psychological safety on board, make clear decisions in ambiguity, and hold accountability without destroying morale.
The capstone produces a personal fleet change leadership plan: a diagnosed culture issue, a change approach with crew engagement tactics, and an execution roadmap the participant can brief to senior leadership. Each leader leaves with practiced judgment for the bridge, not just notes from a seminar.
The program closes with an action-lab capstone where each leader builds a 90-day improvement plan for their vessel or fleet, presented for instructor and peer review.
