Program Overview: What is Dimensional Data Modeling?
Dimensional Data Modeling is a program for data engineers, BI developers, and analytics architects who build the models behind trusted reporting. It covers dimensional modeling foundations, facts and dimensions design, star schema labs, slowly changing dimensions and advanced patterns, and loading, quality, and performance. Participants learn to model data the way the business actually asks questions.
Training runs as instructor-led sessions across 24 hours, each module pairing modeling concepts with hands-on design labs. Participants design fact and dimension tables, build star schemas, handle slowly changing dimensions, and tune loading and query performance. Instructors with data warehousing experience review every model across the practice sessions. The program closes with the Enterprise Warehouse Model capstone, a complete warehouse model each participant builds for a real business domain.
Reporting breaks down when the model underneath is wrong: duplicated metrics, contradictory dashboards, and queries that crawl because the schema fights the question. Teams patch symptoms in BI tools while the real problem sits in the data model. This program teaches modelers to design dimensional structures that make correct answers fast and obvious.
The capstone is the Enterprise Warehouse Model: a complete dimensional model for a real business domain, with conformed dimensions, a star schema, slowly changing dimension handling, and loading and performance design. Your modelers return with a model they can hand to engineering, and the design judgment to keep it clean as the business grows.
Across 24 hours, participants work through six modules that move from foundations to production skills. They design star schemas for real business processes, implement Type 1, 2, and 3 history tracking, build bridge tables for multivalued attributes, run incremental loads with quality checks, and tune star-join performance with indexing and partitioning. The capstone has each team deliver a working warehouse model for a multi-process enterprise scenario, with documentation and a stakeholder walkthrough. Your team leaves with a shared modeling vocabulary, a documented playbook, and the practice to apply it on day-to-day work from day one.
