Program Overview: What is AutoCAD Plant 3D?
AutoCAD Plant 3D is Edstellar's instructor-led technical program for piping designers, plant engineers, and EPC teams who model process plants for construction. Participants master project setup, P&ID drafting and tagging, spec-driven 3D piping routing, and equipment placement with structures and supports. The program covers specs, catalogs, and project data management for deliverable-grade plant models.
Training is hands-on from the first module. Participants build a plant in guided labs: drafting P&IDs with live data, routing 3D piping against project specs, placing equipment, structures, and supports in the model. Instructors coach spec and catalog management with direct feedback on every model. The program closes with a capstone where the team extracts isometric and orthographic deliverables from their own plant model.
Plant projects lose money the same way: P&IDs that don't match the model, isometrics redrawn by hand, spec breaks found in fabrication. This program teaches spec-driven discipline, data-rich models where every line, valve, and tag traces to the spec. Everything is practiced on realistic plant layouts, so the model becomes the source of deliverables.
The capstone pulls fabrication-ready isometrics and orthographic drawings out of a spec-driven 3D plant model the team built, tagged, and data-managed themselves. Designers go back generating deliverables from the model instead of redrawing them, with every line number traceable to its P&ID tag and spec.
Six modules and 24 hours: workspace and projects, P&IDs and data, 3D piping, equipment and structures, specs and catalogs. Every module pairs concepts with a guided lab, so each technique is practiced. It closes with a capstone plant package the team models, documents, and presents.
Delivery is hybrid across virtual and onsite sessions, scheduled around your calendar. Cohorts train as one group or split into batches, with session materials and lab guides included for every participant.

Key Skills and Outcomes Your Team Will Gain
Seven job-ready outcomes your team will demonstrate by the end of the program. Each competency is practiced in guided labs and reviewed in the capstone build.
Configure project setups
Create Plant 3D projects, set up templates and title blocks, and manage data shortcuts for multi-user teams.
Draft intelligent P&IDs
Build tagged P&IDs with equipment, lines, and instruments, and manage the data behind every tag.
Route 3D piping models
Convert P&ID data into 3D pipe runs with spec-driven parts, fittings, and branch connections.
Place equipment and nozzles
Position equipment, connect nozzles to piping runs, and resolve clashes with structural elements.
Manage specs and catalogs
Work with the Spec Editor and catalogs to control parts, sizes, and branch tables across the project.
Generate isometrics
Produce production isos with styles, annotations, and BOMs ready for fabrication review.
Produce orthographic deliverables

Teams that Benefit from this AutoCAD Plant 3D Group Training
Built for plant design and engineering teams that produce plant documentation. Content adapts to role and experience, so each cohort practices the modeling workflows it owns day to day.
Route spec-driven piping with fewer rework loops
Piping designers practice spec-driven routing, fitting placement, and iso production on models that mirror your plant projects.
Workflow friction
- Manual isometric drafting on every change
- Spec mismatches between P&ID and model
- Rework from uncoordinated pipe routes
How the program helps
- Spec-driven routing that enforces standards
- Isos generated straight from the model
- Faster revision cycles on pipe runs
Practice use cases
- Pipe routing
- Iso production
- Branch tables
- Spec control
Keep P&IDs and models in lockstep
Process engineers practice P&ID drafting, tagging, and data management so design intent flows cleanly into 3D models.
Workflow friction
- P&IDs that drift from the 3D model
- Tagging inconsistencies across sheets
- Slow line-list generation by hand
How the program helps
- Tagged P&IDs linked to model data
- Data Manager reports for line lists
- Clear handoffs to piping designers
Practice use cases
- P&ID drafting
- Tag formats
- Line lists
- Data queries
Standardize templates and sheet production
CAD teams learn template management, ortho production, and sheet sets that keep plant documentation consistent and review-ready.
Workflow friction
- Legacy drawings with ad hoc styles
- Drawing production that eats project hours
- Inconsistent annotation across drafters
How the program helps
- One template library for all projects
- Clean orthos, isos, and sheet sets
- Fewer review cycles on submittals
Practice use cases
- Template setup
- Ortho views
- Sheet sets
- BOM reports
Coordinate multi-discipline plant models
Project engineers practice xref coordination, clash review, and deliverable packaging so plant packages ship complete and on time.
Workflow friction
- Siloed models that clash at review
- Interference issues found too late
- Fragmented plant documentation
How the program helps
- Coordinated models across disciplines
- Early clash detection before construction
- Complete deliverable packages
Practice use cases
- Xref coordination
- Clash review
- Deliverable packs
- Revision control
Every cohort trains on workflows drawn from its own project types, templates, and design standards.
Prerequisites: Piping designers, plant layout engineers, and CAD technicians who produce plant documentation benefit most. Familiarity with basic CAD concepts helps but is not required; process background is useful for the P&ID module. Content adapts to each cohort's tools, templates, and project context.
Plant designer to design lead
Start with workspace and P&ID basics, build toward 3D piping and equipment modeling, and finish with a capstone that proves end-to-end capability.
One program that grows with plant design careers, from basics to confident practice.
Mixed cohort, or several teams at once?
We can tailor the training to different teams, roles, and experience levels within the same program.

Where this Training Fits in Your Team's learning path.
Plant 3D modelling follows the P&IDs that define a process. Your team draws P&IDs, models the plant in 3D in this course, coordinates the plant model in Navisworks, and finally reviews the design through HAZOP and LOPA to manage process safety.
