Program Overview: What is VMware NSX?
VMware NSX is Edstellar's instructor-led program for network and security engineers virtualizing the network layer with VMware NSX. Participants learn NSX architecture, logical switching and routing, micro-segmentation, Edge services, and operations across a 29-hour curriculum. The focus stays on network virtualization done right: software-defined networking your security team will approve of.
Training is lab-heavy from the first module. Participants build logical switches and overlays in guided exercises, configure routing and gateways, and implement micro-segmentation policies on realistic topologies. Instructors coach teams through Edge deployments and troubleshooting, with feedback on every configuration. The program closes with a capstone where teams build a secure multi-tier application network.
NSX deployments struggle when teams treat it as VLANs with extra steps: flat policies, ungoverned Edges, and micro-segmentation never finished. This program teaches your engineers to think in software-defined terms, with segmentation designed from day one. Every lab mirrors enterprise network reality, so the skills transfer to production.
The capstone is a secure multi-tier build: teams design and implement a complete NSX network for a realistic application, with segmented tiers, firewall policies, and Edge services, then defend the design against instructor-led attack scenarios. The adversarial review is the point, because networks are attacked, not admired. Teams finish with a validated reference design and the operational confidence to run NSX as the network's control plane. Software-defined networking is only as good as its policies, and this capstone teaches how to write good ones.
Network virtualization changes how teams deliver connectivity: weeks of tickets become API calls, and security moves from the perimeter to every workload. This program focuses on the design decisions behind that shift, overlay strategy, routing hierarchy and segmentation policy, so your team can defend each choice.
Network, cloud, and security roles align as everyone works from one NSX standard. The capstone consolidates it all: a segmented, load-balanced environment your team designs, secures, and troubleshoots together.

Key Skills and Outcomes Your Team Will Gain
Your team leaves able to design, deploy, secure, and operate VMware NSX environments, with hands-on practice on the exact tasks they will own in production.
Design NSX network overlays
Plan and build GENEVE-based overlay segments that isolate workloads while keeping traffic flows simple to manage.
Route traffic across tiers
Configure tier-0 and tier-1 gateways with BGP or OSPF so segments, zones, and external networks route reliably.
Enforce micro-segmentation policy
Write distributed firewall rules that contain each workload tier, blocking lateral movement across the environment.
Operate NSX Edge services
Deploy Edge clusters and configure NAT, VPN, and load balancing to publish applications with resilient north-south paths.
Automate NSX with APIs
Script repeatable network and security deployments through the NSX policy REST API and infrastructure-as-code tools.
Monitor and troubleshoot NSX
Read flow records, logs, and health data to find faults fast and keep segmented environments performing.
Secure NSX workloads
Combine switching, routing, firewalling, and monitoring into a defensible, well-run virtual network design.
Teams that Benefit from this VMware NSX Group Training
Built for cloud, network, and security engineers who design, run, or secure virtualized infrastructure. Whether your team is adopting NSX or tightening an existing deployment, content adapts to role and experience so each cohort practices the workflows it owns.
Ship virtual networks faster with fewer tickets
Cloud infrastructure teams standardize overlay design and deployment, cutting provisioning time and repeat configuration work.
Workflow friction
- Manual network changes slow releases
- Inconsistent configs across environments
- VLAN sprawl limits scaling
How the program helps
- Automate segment provisioning with APIs
- Apply one repeatable design standard
- Scale overlays without VLAN sprawl
Practice use cases
- Overlay provisioning
- API-driven deployments
- Design standardization
Troubleshoot virtual networks with confidence
NetOps teams read NSX flows and routes like a map, so faults get isolated in minutes instead of hours.
Workflow friction
- Blind spots in virtual traffic paths
- Slow fault isolation across tiers
- Change windows carry high risk
How the program helps
- Trace flows end to end in NSX
- Isolate faults with flow records
- Validate changes before rollout
Practice use cases
- Flow analysis
- Fault isolation
- Change validation
Contain threats with micro-segmentation
Security engineers enforce workload-level policies that stop lateral movement and simplify audit evidence.
Workflow friction
- Flat networks aid lateral movement
- Firewall rules drift over time
- Audit evidence is hard to gather
How the program helps
- Segment workloads with distributed firewall
- Keep policies consistent and reviewable
- Export policy evidence for audits
Practice use cases
- Policy design
- Lateral movement tests
- Audit-ready rules
Give developers networks that just work
Platform teams deliver self-service connectivity and load-balanced services behind stable, automated NSX patterns.
Workflow friction
- Developers wait on network tickets
- Ad-hoc configs break platforms
- Edge services are fragile
How the program helps
- Publish load-balanced app services
- Automate network delivery for teams
- Harden Edge clusters for uptime
Practice use cases
- Service publishing
- Edge clustering
- Platform automation
Each cohort works through role-relevant scenarios, then leaves with reusable patterns for day-to-day work.
Prerequisites: This program suits network, cloud, and security engineers who already manage virtualized infrastructure or data center networks. Familiarity with switching, routing, and firewall concepts helps, but no prior NSX experience is required. Content adapts to each cohort's environment and tools, so every team practices the workflows it owns.

Build Segmented NSX Networks With Verified Traffic Paths and Operational Visibility
Edstellar develops NSX skills through the design and testing of a multi-tier virtual network. Participants configure overlays, routing, micro-segmentation, and Edge services before adding API automation and diagnostic workflows. The final environment demonstrates whether connectivity and security policy work together, with review of traffic evidence, fault analysis, and design rationale.
- Step 01
Consult
We assess switching, routing, and virtual infrastructure experience, identifying gaps in NSX overlays, gateway design, segmentation policy, Edge services, and diagnosing software-defined traffic flows.
- Step 02
Plan
We establish NSX architecture, build logical switching and routing, then connect micro-segmentation and Edge services with automation and monitoring in a secure multi-tier environment.
- Step 03
Align
We align network virtualization expertise with cloud and security engineers, confirming suitable NSX lab resources and calibrating troubleshooting to participants' networking and infrastructure experience.
- Step 04
Customize
We adapt a fictional multi-tier application and network policy to familiar data-center patterns, retaining overlay faults, routing dependencies, firewall decisions, and API automation without changing operational networks.
- Step 05
Execute
Participants build overlays, apply segmentation rules, and automate segment deployment, receiving feedback on traffic verification, policy boundaries, Edge behavior, and the diagnosis of planted faults.
- Step 06
Evaluate
We assess the segmented environment for intended connectivity, justified firewall policy, reproducible automation, and flow evidence that supports a clear explanation of troubleshooting and security decisions.
