Program Overview: What is Unconscious Bias?
Unconscious Bias is Edstellar's instructor-led behavioral program for managers, recruiters, and teams who want fairer decisions at work. Participants explore how the brain takes shortcuts, where bias shows up in hiring, reviews, and daily interactions, and how to interrupt it in the moment. The aim is honest and practical: better decisions, not better intentions.
Training runs 12 hours across five modules, built around discussion and practice rather than lectures. Participants work through realistic hiring and promotion scenarios, practice inclusive language, and rehearse bias interrupts with instructor coaching and peer feedback at every step. Every scenario is debriefed openly, so the team builds shared language for calling out bias kindly and clearly. The program closes with a three-hour capstone: each participant's personal bias-interrupt action plan.
Bias training fails when it stays theoretical: everyone agrees bias exists, then returns to the same hiring and review habits. The damage shows in who gets interviewed, promoted, and heard. This program teaches your team to interrupt bias where it happens, in real decisions, with techniques they have already rehearsed.
The capstone is personal: each participant builds their own bias-interrupt action plan, naming the decisions they own, the biases most likely to creep in, and the specific interrupts they will use. Plans are shared with peers and pressure-tested in facilitated discussion, not judged. What they take back is a concrete, personal commitment, rehearsed out loud, for the next hiring panel, review cycle, or meeting where it counts.
The program is built for managers, HR professionals, team leads, and anyone involved in hiring or evaluation. Concepts are taught live with real workplace examples, and every module includes role plays or practice scenarios where participants rehearse the actual moments they face: interviewing candidates, giving feedback, and speaking up in meetings. The capstone showcase puts it all together with instructor coaching.
