Program Overview: What is Privacy by Design and Data Protection Engineering?

Privacy by Design & Data Protection Engineering is Edstellar's instructor-led technical program for privacy engineers, security teams, and product developers. Participants master privacy principles, the data protection law landscape, privacy engineering techniques, DPIAs, and embedding privacy into the SDLC. The program treats privacy as an engineering discipline.

Training is engineering-focused throughout. Learners apply anonymization techniques, conduct DPIAs, and design privacy controls in hands-on exercises on realistic product systems, the way a privacy review board would interrogate them, documenting every design decision for audit. Instructors coach the team through SDLC integration and risk assessment, reviewing every design with technical feedback on compliance strength. The program closes with a capstone: a complete privacy program build.

Privacy bolted on late is expensive: retrofits, regulatory findings, launch delays, and products rebuilt after a public release. This program teaches your teams to engineer privacy in from the design stage. The result is compliance by construction, not by audit scramble.

What the capstone produces is the artifact a regulator would ask to see: principles mapped to controls, DPIA templates, SDLC checkpoints, and an operating model. Your engineers return with privacy engineering they can defend in any review.

Six modules and 24 hours: privacy foundations, the law landscape, privacy engineering techniques, DPIAs and risk assessment, privacy in the SDLC, and a capstone privacy program build. Every module pairs concepts with a guided lab, so each technique is practiced. It closes with a capstone program the team builds, validates, and presents.

Delivery is hybrid across virtual and onsite sessions, scheduled around your calendar. Cohorts train as one group or split into batches, with session materials and lab guides included for every participant.

Engineer Privacy Into Product Data Flows, Lifecycle Controls, and Risk Reviews

Edstellar helps product and security teams turn privacy principles into engineering decisions. Participants map data flows, translate requirements, and test masking or anonymization approaches before completing a feature DPIA. Consent, rights, and retention exercises culminate in a product privacy program, assessed for control rationale and recognition of residual risks.

  1. Step 01

    Consult

We examine product data-handling responsibilities, security familiarity, and recurring privacy design questions to identify gaps in data-flow analysis, risk assessment, or lifecycle controls.

  2. Step 02

    Plan

We establish privacy principles and requirement translation before engineering techniques, DPIAs, and SDLC integration, then combine consent, rights, and retention workflows in the capstone.

  3. Step 03

    Align

We align privacy engineering expertise with software, product, and governance roles, matching technical depth to the cohort's experience with data handling and design reviews.

  4. Step 04

    Customize

We adapt sample feature launches and datasets to familiar product patterns, preserving opportunities to examine re-identification risk and the limits of masking or anonymization.

  5. Step 05

    Execute

Participants map data flows, assess privacy risks, and design consent and deletion workflows, receiving feedback on control coverage, residual exposure, and implementation consistency.

  6. Step 06

    Evaluate

We review the product privacy program for traceability from risks to controls, coherent lifecycle workflows, justified mitigation choices, and explicit treatment of remaining privacy limitations.

Start an RFP shaped to your needs.

Answer three quick questions about team size, scope, and how often you need the program run, then send the request from the last step. Everything you choose travels with it, so you only fill this in once.
